unauthorized access
Definition
Unauthorized access means someone entered a computer system, physical space, or account without permission from the owner. This can happen when someone hacks into your business software, uses a stolen password, or even when a former employee logs into your systems after you've let them go.
Example
If a competitor somehow logs into your customer database to steal your client list, that counts as unauthorized access and they can face serious criminal charges for it.
Watch Out
Make sure you officially revoke all system passwords and access credentials the moment an employee leaves your company, because you could face complications if a disgruntled ex-employee accesses your systems and you never formally cut off their access.
