trademark
Definition
A trademark is a word, logo, slogan, or symbol that identifies your business and distinguishes your products or services from competitors. Registering a trademark gives you the exclusive legal right to use that name or logo in your industry across the country.
Example
If you build a bakery brand called 'Sunrise Sweets' with a distinctive sun logo, you can trademark both the name and the logo so no other bakery can copy them.
Watch Out
Even without a federal registration, someone who used a similar name before you in the same market may have stronger legal rights to it than you do.
