trade ads

Definition

Trade ads are advertisements directed at businesses, retailers, or industry professionals rather than everyday consumers. Companies use them to promote their products or services within a specific industry, often appearing in trade publications, industry journals, or at professional conferences.

Example

A wholesale food distributor might run trade ads in a restaurant industry magazine to convince restaurant owners to stock their products.

Watch Out

If you make specific performance claims in your trade ads, those claims must be accurate and provable because the FTC holds business-to-business advertising to the same truth-in-advertising standards as consumer ads.
