suspend services

Definition

Suspend services means one party in a contract temporarily stops providing their work or deliverables, usually because the other party has broken a term of the agreement such as failing to pay. This is different from ending the contract completely because the intention is to pause and resume once the problem gets resolved.

Example

If a client owes you three months of unpaid invoices, your contract might give you the right to suspend services until they bring their account current.

Watch Out

Always check your contract to see whether you must give written notice and a grace period before you can legally suspend services, because skipping that step could put you in breach of the contract yourself.
