subcontratistas

Definition

Subcontractors are outside workers or companies that a business hires to handle a specific part of a larger project, rather than doing that work with their own employees. The main business (the general contractor) stays responsible to the client, but it pays the subcontractor to complete a defined piece of the job.

Example

If you run a construction company and hire a licensed electrician to handle all the wiring on a building project, that electrician is your subcontractor.

Watch Out

You can still be held legally responsible to your client if a subcontractor does poor work or causes harm, so always use written contracts and verify that your subcontractors carry their own insurance.
