specifications
Definition
Specifications are the detailed written descriptions in a contract that spell out exactly what a product, service, or piece of work must look, perform, or function like. Think of them as the precise instructions that tell a contractor or vendor exactly what you expect to receive, leaving as little room for misunderstanding as possible.
Example
If you hire someone to build out your retail space, the specifications might state the exact dimensions of shelving, the brand and color of paint, and the type of flooring material to be installed.
Watch Out
Vague or missing specifications are one of the most common reasons business owners end up in disputes with contractors or suppliers, so the more detail you include upfront, the better protected you are.
