results and proceeds
Definition
This phrase refers to anything that comes out of or is produced by a particular asset, piece of work, or business activity, including both the direct output and any money or value generated from it. You will often see this language in contracts where one party wants to make sure they own or have rights to everything that flows from a specific effort or property, not just the obvious end product.
Example
If you hire a freelance designer and your contract says you own all results and proceeds of their work, you own not just the final logo they create but also any drafts, concepts, and money earned from licensing that artwork later.
Watch Out
When you sign a contract giving someone else rights to the results and proceeds of your work, you could be signing away far more than you realize, so always read this language carefully before agreeing.
