Prior inventions are things you created, invented, or developed before you started working with a company or signing a contract. Businesses often ask employees or contractors to list these upfront so everyone agrees that those older creations belong to you and not to the company.
Example
If you built a software app on your own time before getting hired, listing it as a prior invention means your new employer cannot claim ownership of it later.
Watch Out
If you forget to list something you created before the job, your employer may argue that invention belongs to them under your employment agreement.
