permanently delete
Definition
Permanently delete means to destroy data or records so completely that no one can recover or reconstruct them, ever. This goes far beyond simply moving a file to the trash, because most deleted files can actually be recovered with the right software until they are truly wiped.
Example
If a customer asks you to permanently delete their personal information under a privacy law, you need to use special software that overwrites the data, not just drag their file to your computer's recycling bin.
Watch Out
Some laws require you to permanently delete certain customer data within a specific timeframe, and failing to do so properly can expose your business to serious legal penalties.
