perfect rights
Definition
Perfect rights are legally enforceable entitlements that give you the power to demand something specific from another person or entity and to take legal action if they refuse. Courts recognize and protect these rights, meaning you can sue someone to make them fulfill their obligation to you. This stands in contrast to moral or social obligations that people might feel but that no court can actually force anyone to honor.
Example
If a customer signs a contract to pay you $5,000 for your services, you have a perfect right to that money, and you can take them to court to collect it if they refuse to pay. Your legal claim is solid and enforceable.
Watch Out
Just because you believe you deserve something does not mean you have a perfect right to it, so always get important agreements in writing to make sure your rights are actually enforceable in court.
