overnight courier
Definition
An overnight courier is a delivery service that guarantees your documents or packages will arrive at their destination by the next business day. Many contracts specify that legal notices must be sent by overnight courier because it creates a reliable, trackable record of exactly when you sent something and when the other party received it.
Example
If your lease requires you to give your landlord 30 days written notice before moving out, sending that notice via overnight courier gives you a tracking number that proves the landlord received it on a specific date.
Watch Out
When a contract requires you to send notice by overnight courier, sending an email or regular mail instead may mean the law treats your notice as if you never sent it at all.
