obligación contractual

Definition

A contractual obligation is a specific duty or responsibility that you legally owe to another party because you both signed or agreed to a contract. When you enter a contract, you are promising to do something, like deliver a product, complete a service, or make a payment, and the law holds you to that promise. Failing to fulfill your contractual obligation can expose you to lawsuits and financial penalties.

Example

If you sign a contract to deliver 500 custom t-shirts to a retailer by a certain date, your contractual obligation is to deliver those shirts on time and as described. The retailer has their own contractual obligation to pay you the agreed price once you deliver.

Watch Out

Always read a contract carefully before signing because once you sign, every duty listed in that document becomes your legal responsibility whether you fully understood it or not.
