mediation
Definition
Mediation is a process where a neutral third party called a mediator helps two sides of a dispute talk through their differences and reach a voluntary agreement. The mediator does not make decisions for anyone but instead guides the conversation to help both parties find a solution they can both live with.
Example
If you and a former contractor disagree over whether the work was completed properly, a mediator can sit down with both of you to help you negotiate a settlement without going to court.
Watch Out
Any agreement you reach in mediation can become legally binding once you sign it, so review it carefully before you put pen to paper.
