An invoice is a formal document you send to a customer that requests payment for goods or services you have already provided. It spells out exactly what you delivered, how much the customer owes, and when you expect to receive payment.
Example
After completing a website redesign for a client, you send them an invoice listing your services, the total fee of $3,000, and a due date 30 days from the invoice date.
