enmienda escrita
Definition
An enmienda escrita is a written change or modification made to an existing contract or legal document. Both parties must agree to and sign this written change for it to become legally binding and replace or update the original terms.
Example
If you signed a lease agreement but later negotiated a lower monthly rent with your landlord, you would both sign an enmienda escrita to officially update the contract with the new amount.
Watch Out
Verbal agreements to change a contract are often unenforceable, so always get any modifications put into a signed written amendment to protect yourself.
