Definition
Enjoining means a court is legally ordering someone to stop doing something or to start doing something. A judge issues this order, called an injunction, when waiting for a full trial could cause serious harm that money alone cannot fix. The person who gets enjoined must obey immediately or risk being held in contempt of court.
Example
If a former employee starts sharing your trade secrets with a competitor, you could ask a court to enjoin them, meaning the court would order them to stop immediately while your lawsuit plays out.
Watch Out
Violating an injunction can result in fines or even jail time, so if someone enjoins you, treat it as the most urgent legal matter on your plate.
