Definition
Enforcement is the process of making someone actually follow the rules, laws, or agreements they are supposed to follow. When a contract, law, or court order exists on paper but someone ignores it, enforcement is the action taken to compel that person or business to comply or face real consequences.
Example
If a customer signs a contract promising to pay you within 30 days but never does, you can pursue enforcement by taking them to small claims court and getting a judge to order them to pay.
Watch Out
Having a signed contract or winning a lawsuit does not automatically get you paid or protected because you often have to take separate enforcement steps, which can cost additional time and money.
