Definition
To enforce something means to take action to make sure a rule, agreement, or court order is actually followed and carried out. When you enforce a contract, for example, you use legal means to compel the other party to do what they promised to do.
Example
If a client refuses to pay you after you completed the work, you could enforce your contract by taking them to small claims court to collect the money they owe you.
Watch Out
Having a written contract is only half the battle because a contract you never enforce is essentially worthless, so always be prepared to follow through if the other party fails to hold up their end of the deal.
