end users

Definition

End users are the actual people who will use your product or service in their daily lives, as opposed to the businesses or retailers who help sell or distribute it to them. When a software company writes an "End User License Agreement," they are writing rules specifically for the individual person sitting down to use the software, not for the store that sold it.

Example

If you sell your handmade app through the Apple App Store, the end user is the customer who downloads and uses your app, not Apple itself.

Watch Out

Your legal responsibilities and warranties to end users can differ significantly from your responsibilities to the retailers or distributors in your supply chain, so make sure your contracts clearly spell out who is responsible for what at each level.
