delegates
Definition
To delegate means to officially hand off a task, responsibility, or authority to someone else so they can act on your behalf. In a business context, an owner or manager can delegate decision-making power to an employee or another party, meaning that person can legally make choices and take actions as if they were you.
Example
If you delegate purchasing authority to your store manager, that manager can sign contracts with suppliers and your business is legally bound by those agreements.
Watch Out
Be careful about who you delegate authority to and how much power you give them, because your business can be held legally responsible for the actions they take within that delegated authority.
