consent

Definition

Consent means that a person voluntarily agrees to something, fully understanding what they are agreeing to. In business, this shows up constantly, from customers agreeing to your terms of service to employees signing off on workplace policies.

Example

When a customer checks the box agreeing to your refund policy before completing a purchase, that action counts as their legal consent to those terms.

Watch Out

Burying your consent language in tiny print or confusing jargon can make that consent worthless in court, so always make sure people genuinely understand what they are agreeing to.
