conforming materials

Definition

Conforming materials are goods, supplies, or products that match exactly what was described or promised in a contract. If you ordered 500 red T-shirts in size large, conforming materials are T-shirts that are actually red, actually large, and actually number 500.

Example

A bakery orders 100 pounds of bread flour from a supplier, and the supplier delivers 100 pounds of cake flour instead, which would be considered non-conforming materials because it does not match what the contract specified.

Watch Out

If a supplier delivers non-conforming materials, you have the right to reject them, but you need to act quickly and notify the supplier in writing or you could accidentally give up that right.
