Definition
A conflict of terms happens when two parts of the same contract say different things about the same issue, creating confusion about which rule actually applies. Courts have to step in and decide which part of the contract takes priority, usually favoring the more specific language over the more general language.
Example
Your contract might say on page 2 that payment is due in 30 days, but then a clause buried on page 8 says payment is due in 15 days, creating a direct conflict that could lead to a dispute.
Watch Out
Always have someone carefully review your contracts before signing, because conflicting terms can be used against you in ways you never intended.
