business conduct policies
Definition
Business conduct policies are written rules that tell employees how they are expected to behave at work and when representing your company. These policies typically cover things like treating customers and coworkers fairly, handling conflicts of interest, protecting company information, and following the law. Think of them as your company's official rulebook for professional behavior.
Example
If you run a retail shop and write down a rule saying employees cannot accept gifts from suppliers worth more than $25, that anti-bribery rule is an example of a business conduct policy in action.
Watch Out
Without written conduct policies, you may have a much harder time legally defending yourself if an employee engages in misconduct and you need to discipline or terminate them.
