authorized representative

Definition

An authorized representative is a person you officially designate to act on your behalf and make decisions as if they were you. This person has your legal permission to sign documents, enter into agreements, or handle specific tasks in your name.

Example

If you own a bakery and appoint your manager to sign vendor contracts while you're on vacation, that manager is acting as your authorized representative.

Watch Out

Be careful about how broadly you define someone's authority, because your business can be legally bound by whatever that person agrees to within the scope of the power you gave them.
