authorized purchaser
Definition
An authorized purchaser is a person or business that has been given official permission to buy specific goods or services from a seller, often under a contract or account agreement. The seller has vetted and approved this buyer in advance, meaning not just anyone can place orders under that arrangement.
Example
If your restaurant has a wholesale account with a food supplier, the supplier might require you to name two or three employees as authorized purchasers so that only those people can place orders and charge them to your account.
Watch Out
If someone who is not on your authorized purchaser list places an order using your account, you may still be held responsible for paying that bill depending on how your contract is written.
