Definition
Audio evidence is any recorded sound that a court accepts as proof of something that happened, such as a phone call recording, a voicemail, or a conversation captured on video. To use it in court, you typically need to prove the recording is authentic and has not been tampered with. Depending on your state, you may also need the consent of everyone being recorded for that audio to be legal in the first place.
Example
If a contractor threatens you over the phone and you have a recording of it, that recording could serve as audio evidence in a lawsuit against them.
Watch Out
Many states require all parties in a conversation to consent to being recorded, so recording someone without their knowledge could actually get you in legal trouble rather than helping your case.
