Definition
An 'approved waste management mechanism' is an officially authorized system or process that a government or regulatory agency has sanctioned for handling, disposing of, or recycling waste materials. Businesses that generate certain types of waste, especially hazardous or regulated waste, must use one of these pre-approved methods rather than disposing of waste however they choose.
Example
If your restaurant generates used cooking oil or your auto shop produces used motor oil, regulators may require you to use a specific approved collection and recycling service rather than pouring it down a drain or leaving it in a dumpster.
