amicably

Definition

Amicably means settling a dispute in a friendly, cooperative way without going to court or getting into a nasty fight. When two parties resolve something amicably, they work together to reach an agreement that both sides can live with.

Example

If a customer claims your product damaged their property, you might amicably settle the matter by offering a refund and a small payment for their trouble, avoiding a lawsuit entirely.

Watch Out

Just because something is settled amicably does not mean it is informal, so you should always get the final agreement in writing to protect yourself.
