Definition
An amendment is an official change or addition made to an existing contract, law, or legal document. Instead of throwing out the whole document and starting over, you simply add an amendment that updates or modifies specific parts while keeping everything else intact.
Example
You signed a one-year lease for your shop, but your landlord agreed to let you stay an extra six months, so you both sign an amendment that changes only the end date of the lease.
Watch Out
Make sure any amendment is signed by all the same parties who signed the original document, otherwise the change may not be legally binding.
