aggregate spend

Definition

Aggregate spend is the total combined amount of money one party pays to another across all transactions over a specific period, rather than looking at each individual payment in isolation. Many contracts and laws use this number to trigger certain rules, obligations, or reporting requirements once spending crosses a set threshold.

Example

If your business buys supplies from the same vendor 12 times throughout the year, your aggregate spend would be the sum of all 12 purchases added together, which might push you into a different pricing tier or require you to file a disclosure.

Watch Out

Some contracts include clauses that change your discount rates, payment terms, or legal obligations once your aggregate spend crosses a certain dollar amount, so always track your running total with key vendors.
